Day 3 with Indigo Wen - July 3, 2007

It's hard to believe that this was our third day with our precious daughter. She slept really well through the night and woke up promptly at 5:20 a.m. We snuggled for a while and she was a little fussy. We gave her a bath and today she sat down in the tub but she was a bit teary as you can see from the tear drops on her little cheeks. She ended up enjoying playing with her cups in the bath and so we did not have to rush her out. After we changed her and put on her clothes, we gave her some rice cereal. However, a short while after that she just became really clingy to me and was just sobbing. It's hard to know why she was sobbing. She did pass some pretty potent gas so it's possible she was working through a stomach pain but it's also possible that she was letting go of some grief over her loss. I thought she seemed a bit feverish and we debated whether or not to give her some infant tylenol but decided not to as she seemed to bounce back and got really cheery again - pretty much after the potent gas passed. We went to breakfast and she had a hearty appetite. She ate that entire plate of eggs that you see in front of her and then wanted eggs from our plates - I could not eat mine anyway and settled for dry toast. She also ate some tofu and some congee and then finished with watermelon. After that, she sucked down her whole bottle lickety split. She was taking a lovely nap - see cute photos with David and we had to rudely awake her to leave for the Walmart excursion. She was not pleased about being woken and cried pitifully but soon quieted as we walked out. She was an angel at Walmart. David had her in the Bjorn but he soon got too hot - it's very hot here. We put her in the grocery cart front and she sat there while we wheeled her around - happy as a clam. We got more diapers, wipes and other stuff and then all met up at noon at the KFC in the Walmart. She ate two french fries - impossible to avoid as she pretty much snatched them up. She had more of her beloved fruit puffs - this time the cherry flavor - thanks again, Aunty Clare. Granny - we need you to have the house stocked with those when we return. She also ate some kind of a version of a fig newton that we found. She fell asleep on me on the bus ride back to the hotel so we thought she would have her nap as soon as we got back. Oh no, she was so lively! Playing with her cups and giggling and laughing. Around 1:30 we got her settled down and she slept for two hours straight. We napped too. After she woke up she played for a while and had another bottle and then we visted Ashley's room - a single mom who has adopted adorable Ella. She is here with her aunt and her parents. We walked to the dress making shop together and ordered some clothes for all of us - and got other stuff as well. The group all had pizza tonight from Pizza Hut. I ate some without any topping and Indigo ate a piece without any topping or cheese as well. Daddy, very bravely, took a taxi to Walmart again because we had decided that we should have bought a stroller earlier. He took the taxi there and he said that the taxi driver was crazy and he thought there was no way he was going to make it there alive. However, he did. He said that Walmart was insanely busy. While he was gone, Indigo and I had a visit from Shawn. He was able to use the computer and catch us up on their day. Karen was in their room because Ava was already asleep. Indigo has been very lively all evening although we continue to think she was working on gas pain as she would periodically get fussy and want me to pick her up and rub her back. She walked so much tonight. She walked all the way from the conference room where we had pizza to the elevators and down the passage and seemed very proud of herself. We had several false alarm suspected dirty diapers but eventually decided she would just have to go to bed. Put her in a fresh diaper and pajamas and settled her down and of course she finally pooped which seemed to make her feel great because after changing her she was incredibly lively and chatty and finally fell asleep around 9 p.m. She had pooped yesterday morning which we had forgotten to say in the blog - not that you all care about the child's pooping habits but our guide asks us every day if the kids have pooped and so we had been super proud yesterday to say she had. This blog is also our journal of our daughter so if there is some TMI I give a half hearted apology. Thanks to all of you for the wonderful comments which my mom has forwarded on to us. We appreciate how happy and excited everyone is for us and also for your well wishes with regards to my frightful illness. I am definitely recovering but my pants became loose enough that they pretty much almost fell down today at the Walmart - mortifying, but not as bad as the moment my friend had when her husband let room service in while she was standing starkers in the bathroom! We are also thrilled to report that the other two couples who were going to Anhui province had their gotcha day yesterday and their girls are doing great. We can't wait for all four of us couples to be reunited again in Guangzhou. Time is going quickly and we'll be home before too long.

Melanie and David,

I am enjoying following along on your journey. She is just beautiful. Your pictures of the crib bring back memories of body parts hanging out of palces that they shouldn't have been. I am glad to hear that you are feeling better. Things will get better once you get to the White Swan. We can't wait until you get home and we can all get together. See you soon.

Melanie, I could almost hear your voice on this post! I laughed through most of it--glad David made it to Walmart and back alive! Thanks for sharing about the poop--you never have to worry about TMI on that score with us, as it seems all we ever talk about these days are the girls' eating, sleeping, and pooping habits. We can compare notes when you get home. I am SO glad to hear you are feeling better. Love, Susan

So good to be keeping up with your journey! I had a few poop posts myself so I know the importance :) What I didn't know then that I know now is that rice, bananas, and eggs can equal a constipated baby. Who knew?
