Indigo slept through her first night, although she would periodically cough, until 5:20 am. Apart from her initial shock of seeing us (with a look like who are you), she became quite playful. We gave her a bath this morning, which she was fine with as long as standing up. She really fell in love with her stacking cups. She also had her first bowl of rice cereal. We really got to see how well she walks. She walked around the bed down the hall unaided to see herself in the mirror.
Melanie was not feeling well, including throwing up. However, we all had to deal with all of our formalities and documentation today visiting three separate offices. We went back to the Civil Affairs Office and Indigo fell asleep on Melanie in the bus. Perhaps this was all well since it was a hot stuffy office with lots of families with their babies. We had our family picture taken for the adoption paper, our interview and paid the majority of the adoption fees. We took a picture in front of the Chinese and American flags, with Indigo sleeping on daddy. This process is the formal Chinese adoption, and we are now considered her parents. Back on the bus to our next stop which was the Notary Public, where we were interviewed again and had to swear to always take care of, love, protect and educate her. Then another trip on the bus to the police station for a photo to be taken for Indigo's Chinese passport.
Back at the hotel, Indigo ate a whole banana which she loved. All three of us took a nap with Indigo sacked out on David's bed for two hours, and after the nap Melanie appeared to be on the upswing feeling a bit better. She was finally able to keep down a Sprite but had still not eaten since yesterday on the plane. Indigo then had her second bottle of the day. So far she only seems to fuss when she is hungry. Melanie played some toddler tunes music for her which she really enjoyed while she played more with her stacking cups. We went to dinner with all the other families at one of the hotel restaurants. She ate a whole bowl of soft egg dish, some rice, noodles and watermelon. The broccoli we tried ended up on the floor. Melanie was able to have a little plain noodle in a broth for herself. Melanie took a walk outside with Indigo with friends to a shop where we are going to have some clothes made. She really enjoyed being outside. Then we had a visit with friends Shawn, Karen and their daughter Ava in our room. Indigo had a quick interaction with Ava on the bed which mostly consisted of Indigo ensuring Ava did not take her toys. Her last bottle of the night, clean diapers and jammies. She then got all lively and giggling, so it took a little longer to put her to bed, but she is sound asleep now in her Chinese crib (which doesn't exactly meet American safety standards as you can seen from the pic of her standing in it).
