Apologies for the delay in posting - just not enough time. The Tuesday after Labor Day, Indigo and I took a drive out far into Maryland to go to my friend Tricie's barn - to see her lesson on her horse Stormy. Indigo loved being out there and was running all around and enjoyed petting the baby foal with Aunt Tricie. After the barn we headed back to Tricie's house and spent the rest of the day together. We were later joined by our friend Robyne and her children and we brought in pizza and then headed home around 8 p.m. to get Indigo to bed. The exciting news of Tuesday was that the last couple in our mid-Atlantic Chinese adoption group received their referral for a beautiful daughter. We are so happy for Toni & Tom and cannot wait until they get to travel to China to bring their daughter home.

On Thursday we had a very impromptu lunch with Ellen - we met up at our Cantonese restaurant where both girls were fawned over by the ladies that work there. Indigo and I headed back home and she played with her new toy from our friend Rakhee - she loves this toy. She is also so into the dogs and spent ages walking from one dog to the other to pat and love and them. They are very patient with her and as long as her pats are gentle, they seem to enjoy the attention.
On Thursday evening, when David got home from work we went down to the beach with her for a while and I swam and they played in the sand. It's been a while since we noted any of her favorite things and activities so a quick update with those. She is now constantly on and off the couch and is mostly good about turning around to come down off the couch but we have to prevent the occasional urge she has to just walk off it. She does not love to eat vegetables but we found a combination of soft steamed chopped up cauliflower with sweet corn kernels and some butter are vegetables that she will eat - although as I write this now after a long delay in posting, she rejected that at dinner last night. She does love to eat chicken so we hope that continues. She still eats a scrambled egg and yogurt for most breakfasts - more and more often she ends up feeding her banana to the dogs.
She loves to close doors and she absolutely loves to look at her books and have her books read to her. She is in the phase of wanting the same books over and over again. Her favorite for a while was "A - you're adorable" which we sing and she still likes that but current favorites (one might say obsessions) are Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed (we have three copies of this book) and also Brown Bear, Brown Bear. David and I can mostly recite them from memory at this point. She loves, loves her bath and is reluctant to get out when it's time. We have also now completely transitioned her from the toddler formula she was on to whole milk and have pretty much eliminated her bottles - she drinks her milk from a sippy cup but we still hold her when we give it to her. Still not a ton of words but very noisy and vocal - predominant word is still doggy but she seems to be understanding a lot more of what we say. Grandma Lee taught her "stir, stir" when she was here - she loves to have a spoon and stir in her cups - her version comes out "dir, dir" which is very cute.
On Friday we had a great time when Ellen and Sarah came over for lunch (or should I say they brought lunch with them for us) and then after lunch we went down to the beach and lake.
We had a marvelous time and the girls were so cute. Sarah was not such a fan of the sand but she loved being in the lake with Ellen and was in there for ages. It was so fun to see them playing in the water together. After a while in the water Indigo wanted to go in the swing which she just loves. Sarah thought that looked like fun and so we took Indigo out and put Sarah in - Indigo was not pleased. However, Sarah did not enjoy it as much (sort of how Indigo was the first time) so Indigo went back in. Then Sarah thought she would
try it again because Indigo was having so much fun. So we put Sarah back in but she did not like it again. In the meantime little Indigo had thrown herself down because she had been taken out of the swing - that part was too hilarious and Ellen and I had to work hard to stifle our giggles at her outrage. Later Sarah and Indigo both sat on my lap which was as close to enjoying the sand that Sarah got but she liked to watch me make molds with the sand toys. It was a really fun afternoon and we look forward to the time when Sarah loves to play in the sand as well as in the lake. David, Indigo and I just hung out and stayed home on Friday evening.
On Saturday we took the dogs to the dog park and while I was in with them David let Indigo run around the grass on the outside of the dog
park and he took her over to the little playground where she enjoyed the slide. After taking the dogs home we ran a few errands and shortly after we returned my cousin Ruth came over with her mom Arlene and her youngest daughter, Sarah Grace. We went to the beach and Sarah Grace just loved swimming in the lake.
Indigo played on the sand and swam in the lake and of course enjoyed the swings. We stayed home on Saturday night and after Indigo went to bed we actually watched a movie!
On Sunday we had a very nice time at our friend
Shawn & Karen's house. They had invited us for the start of football season. It's hard to tell that they are Jets fans! I
t was so wonderful to see Ava again as we had not seen her since we had left China. Ava is doing very well and is obviously extremely happy and thriving under her excellent care. Indigo and Ava did play a bit together which was lovely to see even though it mostly consists of us trying to be sure that Indigo does not take everything from Ava. We really enjoyed ourselves. After the long trip out that day, we stayed home on Sunday evening.
On Monday I had a quiet day with Indigo except for running several errands with her between her morning and afternoon nap. She was so good about all the in and out of the car. We had lunch at an Afghan restaurant and she really enjoyed the food.
