Lotus Blossom Festival and Weekend fun July 19/20

Lots of lake time and fun this weekend. After work we decided to take advantage of the good weather and head down to the lake on Friday night. We ended up picking up a pizza and spaghetti/meatballs for Indigo and eating at the beach. The next morning we headed to the Kenilworth Aquatic gardens, which was the first time we had been to this place. It is along the banks of the Anacostia River, the lesser known river (everyone knows of the Potomac River). The fields of lotus blossoms were spectacular - it was amazing. We went on this particular day because every year they celebrate the Asian festival of the lotus blossom. On the Saturday night we went down to the lake again for swimming and playing in the sand. The next morning, our friends Gabi, Steven and their children Chloe and Isa joined us at the lake and them came back to the house to have a late lunch. Melanie had to leave early to attend the baby shower of a neighbor who had just received their referral for a Chinese daughter. We ended the busy weekend with dinner at Melanie's cousins Ruth, David and their children Anna and Sarah Grace.

Don't think we even knew about this event -- we were in England back then! Great to read about it.
